JEFF HERMANSON

Saunders Co. Sheriff Deputy

Jeff L. Hermanson was born on September 6th, 1976, in Wahoo, NE to Terry and Lorie (Winkelman). Jeff was the first born and the oldest of three.

At a young age, Jeff learned that life was short. He lost his best friend, mentor, and Uncle - Chris Winkelman. Chris and the Mead Football team took Jeff to watch game film, scout opponents and run drills. When Chris passed away, all of that could have stopped, but it didn’t. That village that Chris built, along with his aunts & uncles kept that going for Jeff. They still took Jeff to do all those things. They inspired Jeff’s obsession with sports and love for life. Through losing Chris, Jeff learned to live life to the fullest and that is exactly what he
did. He knew how to work hard and play harder.

Jeff was a Cedar Bluffs High School graduate where he excelled in many sports and other activities. After graduation, Jeff started his law enforcement career at the Saunders County Jail. After graduating from the Law Enforcement Academy in 2001, he worked for the Wahoo Police Department and part time for the Saunders
County Sheriff’s Department. In 2007, he became full-time for Saunders County and fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming a K-9 Handler.

Jeff married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Cindi Townsend, on April 29, 2000. They welcomed two sons to this world, Brayden Lee (18) and Carter Thomas (14). As a family they spent countless days camping, fishing, hunting, and making memories they will always cherish.

Jeff was no stranger to anyone he met, quickly making you a friend. He loved to entertain and make everyone laugh. His ability to light up a room will be greatly missed. He had many special hunting buddies, but none more priceless than his son, Carter.

Jeff was a dedicated member of the Cedar Bluffs Volunteer Fire Department and Ducks Unlimited, serving in both the Wahoo and Fremont Chapters. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting. Jeff had so many friends that he had to put us into group chats in his phone – even giving some of the groups special names. He had the Duck Boyz, the Camping Crew, the family group, and many others.

Weeks before Jeff had passed, the camping crew had a long day on the golf course. Jeff sent a voice recording to the whole crew. Jeff was ready to call it a night, so in his recording, he said, “Anyone else had enough? Can we call a truce, and start again tomorrow?” Anybody that knew and loved Jeff would love to call a truce and try again tomorrow.

Jeff L. Hermanson, 45 years old, of Cedar Bluffs, NE, passed away unexpectedly on June 22, 2022, at Saunders Medical Center in Wahoo, NE. He was laid to rest on June 28, 2022, at Pleansantview Cemetery. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Cindi, and sons Brayden and Carter.
