Sgt. Jessica Lynn (Jackson) Barnett, age 21, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2014 in Nashville, Tenn. She was born in Lincoln on Feb. 15, 1993 to Jim and Dianne Jackson. She attended Norris High School where she participated in FFA and Cross Country and Track. She received the Hammer Inspirational Award from Norris Cross Country team for being an inspiration to everyone on and off the field. Jessica graduated from Norris in May 2011. During her senior year she was chosen to represent her district at the Junior Law Academy that was sponsored by the Nebraska State Patrol in Grand Island.
In August 2011 Jessica joined the United States Army. She graduated from Foxtrot 795th Military Police Battalion on Dec. 15, 2011 and was then assigned to the 4th Battlefield Sustainment Training Brigade, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), where she was a member of the Female Engagement Team (FET). She served from April 2013 through October 2013 in Afghanistan as a FET member. She was later assigned to the 561st MP Company, 716th MP Battalion, 101st Sustained Brigade in Fort Campbell, Ky.
Jessica is survived by her husband, Sgt. Joshua Barnett; her parents, Jim and Dianne Jackson; brother, Justin Jackson; mother-in-law, Sandra Barnett; brother-in-law, Stephen Barnett. Her grandparents, Jack and Rose Marie Jackson and Betty Prochaska.
Uncles and aunts, Joe and Stacy Jackson, Tom and Jackie Hinzman, Melony Clapper, Arlo and Laurie Schmeichel, Gary and Angie Prochaska, Brian Prochaska and Cheryl Sloup, Brenda Prochaska, Janice Folkner and Rick Madsen. Along with 34 cousins and 28 second cousins and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Charles Prochaska and sister-in-law, Kayla Altman.
