SSG Matthew Ryan Bauer, joined us in this world on September 1, 1980. He was 36 years old when he found his eternal rest on January 5, 2017. Matt was a loving and devoted husband, son, brother, uncle, comrade and friend.

Matt continued his education at Northeast Community College in Norfolk. He went on to become a journeyman electrician at Kidwell in Lincoln. He enjoyed spending time at the lake with family and friends. He was a runner who liked training with his faithful companion, "Hutch".


He often ran for charitable causes and events that were important to him. Matt was a "mamma's boy and wanna be country boy" whose heart and contagious smile, will be missed by many. His courageous and joyful spirit will never be lost.

SSG Matthew Bauer, enlisted into the Nebraska Army National Guard on September 12, 1998. He answered America's call and served two tours in support of "Iraqi Freedom".

During his service he was awarded two Army Accommodation medals; an Army Achievement medal and the Army Good Conduct medal.

He was proud of his 18 years of service to his country. We are forever indebted to him for his servant leadership to our country.

Matt is survived by his loving family; wife Jaimy Bauer, parents Kimberly and Myron Gerdes, sister Catherine Gerdes, sister and brother in-law Amanda and Christopher McEntarffer, nephews Jason and Jacob McEntarffer, brother and sister in-law Justin and Lori Bauer, niece Zoe Bauer and Michael Bauer, Matt's father.
